Turtle Hatching Project

There are two incubators in the sea turtle hatchery. We buy turtle eggs from fishermen and other people living close by. These eggs are hatched in the incubators. About 4000 eggs are kept in these incubators. Out of this only about 3100 - 3200 are hatched monthly. After a few days these baby turtles are released to the ocean carefully.

Since our organization was formed, people who were used to eat turtle eggs, reduced their consumption and started to sell the eggs to our organization and earn an additional income. Due to our project the habit of using turtle eggs as food has been considerably reduced.

Since we formed the hatchery in 1986 and up to now, a large number of turtles have been hatched and released to the ocean. This number could be categorized as follows (approximately). Addition to hatching and releasing baby sea turtles, we have rescued, treated and released many turtles to the sea.

From 1986 to 1990:
2,000 baby turtles for a month.
For five years 2,000 x 60 = 120,000

From 1991 to 1995:
2,500 baby turtles for a month.
For five years 2,500 x 60 = 150,000

From 1996 to 2000:
2,850 baby turtles for a month.
For five years 2,850 x 60 =171,000

From 2001 to 2005
3,150 baby turtles for a month.
For five years 3,150 x 60 =189,000

From 2006 to 2010
2,150 baby turtles for a month.
For five years 2,150 x 60 =129,000

From 2011 to 2016
2,950 baby turtles for a month.
For five years 2,950 x 60 =177,000

From 2017 till June 2018
2,350 baby turtles for a month.
For one year and six months 2,350 x 18 =42,300

Total : 978,300
